Edes pandemia ei pysäytä vuoden 2020 MTV Video Music Awards -kilpailua. Kuluneen vuoden parhaita musiikkivideoita kunnioittava ikoninen palkintoshow suunnittelee edelleen suunnitellusti, ja he julkistivat juuri ehdokasluettelonsa. Parhaita kilpailijoita ovat Lady Gaga ja Ariana Grande, joilla on kullakin 9 ehdokkuutta. Suurin osa heidän nimistään on kiitos Gagan uusimman albumin "Rain on Me" -videosta Chromatica. Samaan aikaan Billie Eilish ja The Weeknd ovat perässä 6 ehdokkuudella.
